The story behind Budget Taxi Groningen
How it started
Budget Taxi Groningen is more than transport. It is a family story rooted in Groningen, built on trust, honesty and craftsmanship.
When my father-in-law Frank took over the company, his goal was simple: a real family business where people support each other and serve the city together.
Who Frank was
Frank was much more than a taxi driver. He was intelligent, spiritual and deeply connected to people and the city. He knew every street, every café and every quiet corner of Groningen.
Above all, he loved helping people — through conversation, honest advice, and simply being there when someone needed it most.
A true family team
Frank drove the night shifts, I drove during the day, and together with my brother-in-law we covered almost 24 hours a day. One family. One company. One shared mission.
When everything changed
Frank became seriously ill. Cancer. He wanted to keep driving — it was who he was — but eventually his body no longer allowed it. He fought with everything he had, until it was no longer possible.
In early 2024, we had to say goodbye. Not just to a colleague, but to a mentor, a father-in-law and my closest friend. My brother-in-law chose a different path, and I faced a choice: stop — or continue Frank’s legacy.
The choice was clear.

Frank was the heart of our company. His mindset, humour, lessons and love for the profession live on in everything we do today.
Every ride, every conversation and every customer we help carries a part of his legacy. That is why I continue Budget Taxi Groningen — to honour him and to keep doing what he loved most:
bringing people home safely, with genuine attention.
